Career

The core of Brian Steacy’s career is producing sales of information technology for fast growth companies. During the 11 years Sun Microsystems grew from $300 million to $10 billion in sales, Brian held roles in commercial sales as well as product marketing and marketing communications. In 7 years in sales he consistently exceeded goals that grew over 300% in the same period. Brian has sold into both small and Fortune 500 businesses, including companies such as Chevron, Sprint, Tektronix, Kaiser Permanente, and Intel.

In the last seven years, Brian has worked with startups and early stage companies building and leading sales teams. As Director of Sales and Marketing and one of the first employees of HealthCentral.com, Brian helped raise $100M through venture capital funding and an initial public offering. Brian was responsible for the sales of health information content and web site design services. He and his team closed deals with major healthcare companies such as Tenet Healthcare, Catholic Healthcare West, Sutter Health and Scripps.

Recently, Brian led the creation of ClearControls, a product division, offering computers, software, and tools to the utility, petroleum, pharmaceutical, and industrial automation markets. As General Manager, Brian was responsible for product development, marketing, sales, manufacturing, and customer service. In less than two years, ClearControls reached an annual run rate of $1 million in product sales. ClearControls sales led to over $1 million dollars in systems integration contracts for its parent company. ClearControls products are now a standard offering for Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, a leading equipment and services supplier to the electrical utility industry.

Education

Brian Steacy studied as a member of The Aji Network, a business education institution. Brian is a graduate of the two-year Business Professional’s Course. He recently completed eight years of graduate work in the Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Innovation and the accumulation of Power (LEIP) program.

As a member of The Aji Network, Brian learned new skills and practices from accomplished teachers, coaches, and fellow students who are all top performers and educated business people. These people hold roles ranging from business owner to executive, manager, expert, and individual performer. They work in leading global companies such as GE, HP, Agilent, Sprint and Sun. They share their expertise from a diverse mix of industries and countries.

Brian is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He earned a B.A. degree in Psychology in 1984.

Personal

Brian and his wife, Julie, have been married for 16 years. They have one daughter, Millie, 13 years old, and live in Sacramento, California.

When he is not working or studying, Brian enjoys playing with his family and friends. He supports Julie’s active involvement in community and social activities.

Among his many responsibilities as a father, Brian happily serves as Millie’s homework checker, backup chauffeur, and cheerleader. Brian also enjoys bicycling along the American River Parkway, taking the family dog for a run, and recovering with an occasional yoga class.
